    Biography :
    Dr. J. T. Efird completed his Doctorate in Epidemiology (Biostatistics Concentration) at Stanford University School of Medicine. He has over 20 years of experience in the field of cancer research and biostatistics, having worked at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard Medical School), UCSF School of Medicine, and Stanford University School of Medicine. Prior to joining the University of North Carolina, Dr. Efird was Director of the Biostatistics Facility at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (Honolulu, Hawaii) and an Associate Member of the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii. Additionally, he headed the Shared Resources Unit for the Hawaii EXPORT Center (diabetes disparities and associated complications in Native Hawaiians and Pacific peoples) and served as Statistical Director for the PILI Ohana Program (Partnerships to Overcome Obesity Disparities in Hawaii). He continues to serve as the Research Core Director for the Asia-Pacific Institute of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease (Honolulu, HI), where he oversees the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Unit and the Applications Programming and Systems Development Unit. He has over 90 publications in scientific journals and proceedings and serves on the editorial board of four journals. Efird recently served as a Scientific Liaison to the Peer Review Working Group of the Advisory Committee to the Director, National Institutes of Health and is an American Statistical Association Media Expert – Scientific & Policy Advisory Committee. He has served as a grant reviewer for The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (2004-2006) and an external reviewer for the CDC/NIOSH Division of Surveillance, Hazard Evaluation and Field Studies (DSHEFS). When at Stanford University, he was appointed by the Vice Provost, Dean of Research and Graduate Policy to serve on the Administrative Panel of Human Subjects in Medical Research at Stanford University School of Medicine.     Biography :
    Elliot Rosenstein is the Director of the Institute for Rheumatic & Autoimmune Disease at Overlook Medical Center, Summit, NJ. Associate Clinical Professor Clinical Immunology Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Adjunct Associate Professor Rheumatology NYU School of Medicine, Adjunct Professor Periodontics New Jersey Dental School. He received his Medical Doctorate from Mount Sinai School of Medicine 1978 with postgraduate training in internal medicine and rheumatology at New York University 1978-1984. He is the former President of the New Jersey Rheumatology Association and is on the Board of Directors of the Arthritis FoundationNJ Chapter. He received the Catherine and Gilbert Miller Fellowship of the New York Arthritis Foundation and the Thomas P Infusino Lectureship of the Lautenberg Center for General Tumor Immunology. He is former contributing editor of postgraduate advances in Rheumatology and Year Book of Rheumatology. He has published over 65 articles reviews and chapters on a variety of rheumatologic and immunologic topics.    BIOGRAPHY

    David A Scott is the Director of the Oral Biology Graduate Program at the University of Louisville USA, Associate Professor Oral Health and Systemic Disease School of Dentistry University of Louisville Associate Professor Microbiology and Immunology and Toxicology and Pharmacology School of Medicine University of Louisville Faculty James Graham Brown Cancer Centre Louisville. He received a BSc in Microbiology from HeriotWatt University Edinburgh Scotland and a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from McGill University Montreal Canada. He is past President of the International Society for the Prevention of Tobacco Induced Diseases and a member of the International Association for Dental Research and the Society for Leukocyte Biology. He is a NIDCR study section member serves on the Editorial Board of three journals and reviews for many others. His research has been funded by the Canadian NSERC and CIHR and US governments CDC and NIH.    BIOGRAPHY

    Biography :
    Jianfei Yang is a senior scientist and a project leader in the Th17/Treg cell company at Tempero Pharmaceuticals, a GSK company. He received a PhD in Pathology from Niigata University School of Medicine in Japan in 1997. He then obtained postdoctoral training in Ken Murphy’s lab at HHMI and Washington University School of Medicine. In the past 15 year, he has been studying the role of CD4+ T helper cells in immunity and diseases. He has 10 years’ of experience in autoimmune disease research and pharmaceutical drug development. He has published numerous papers and patents. Currently, he is interested in targeting Th17 and/or Treg cells for the treatment of immunological diseases.     BIOGRAPHY

    Biography :
    Dr. Zhao received his MD from Dalian Medical University, China and PhD in Biochemistry from Gifu Medical University, Japan. He completed his post-doctoral fellow training in molecular biology at University of Delaware and in pulmonary diseases at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and became a junior faculty in Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. Following with Drs. Joe Garcia and V. Natarajan, Dr. Zhao moved to University of Chicago and was promoted to Assistant Professor (RA) in Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care. In March 2010, Dr. Zhao joined the Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care faculty at the University of Pittsburgh as an Associate Professor.    BIOGRAPHY

    Anshu Agrawal is Associate Adjunct Professor Division of Basic and Clinical Immunology Dept of Medicine University of California Irvine. She was a research Scientist at UNIDO organization International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology ICGEB New Delhi India. She has been a post doctoral fellow at Institute Curie France and Emory Vaccine Center Altanta. She has received Indo French fellowship award from CNRS France for her work on B cell immunology in India. She has received the New Scholar award from Ellison Medical foundation USA for her work on aging and immunity. She is a reviewer for 10 journals and has published 37 peer reviewed papers. She serves as Ad hoc reviewer for grant proposals funded by biotechnology and biological sciences research Council BBSRC UK Medical Research Council MRC UK and NIHs Nathan Shock Center for Aging.     The two major research interests are : 1) Mechanisms leading to age-associated decline in the capacity of dendritic cells to maintain peripheral self tolerance and its contribution to chronic inflammation and autoimmune disorders.

    Guo-Min Deng has completed his Ph.D from Gothenburg University in Sweden and postdoctoral studies from National Institutes of Health (NIH), MD. He was assistant professor of Medicine in Harvard Medical School, Harvard University. He has published more than 20 papers in reputed journals including two first author’s papers in Nature Medicine and serving as an editorial board member of repute. At present he accepted a new position in China, professor and Chairman, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, China.    BIOGRAPHY

    The role of lipid rafts in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). In lupus-prone MRL/lpr mice, we found that lipid raft clustering forms on surface of T cells and disrupted or accelerated lripid raft clustering delays or promoted lupus pathology progression. Our studies demonstrate that lipid rafts make an important contribution in the pathogenesis of SLE (Deng GM, et al. J Immunology, 2008). We are further determining the mechanism whereby lipid rafts regulate lupus pathology progression.    RESEARCH INTEREST

    Biography :
    Associate Professor Jagat Kanwar, Group Leader “Nanomedicine-Laboratory of Immunology and Molecular Biomedical Research” working in Deakin University, Australia. He did his PhD in 1993 from PGIMER, Chandigarh, India and worked as a Senior Scientist in The Auckland University, New Zealand for more than 10 years. He has a national and international reputation in investigating fundamental and applied molecular aspects of cancer and chronic inflammation. His research is also focused on miRNA, aptamer, locked nucleic acid (LNA) LNA-modified chimeric aptamers-siRNA conjugates, and immunoliposomes technology and disease targeted drug discovery. His research combines Immunology with state of the art and cutting edge techniques in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Nanobiotechnology and visualization to investigate the pathways in which key molecules are regulated in both normal and disease states. He designed nanocarriers for applications in vaccines, immunotherapy, and drug delivery of antigens immunostimulatory ligands to dendritic cells and subsequent stimuli to T- lymphocytes, B-lymphocytes and TH17 cells.     Noah Isakov is a Professor of Immunology and Chair of The Shraga Segal Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Faculty of Health Sciences Ben Gurion University of the Negev Beer Sheva Israel. He received his PhD from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot Israel 1981 and performed postdoctoral studies at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis MN 1981-1983 and the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla CA 1983-1987. He performed a Sabbatical at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the NIH Bethesda MD 1993-1995 and served as an Esther Z Greenberg Honors Chair in Biomedical Research at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in Oklahoma City OK 2003-2004 and President of the Israel Immunological Society 2004-2006.
