Biography

Dr. Xiaoliang Cheng obtained his BA in chemistry from the Zhengzhou University in 2004, then a MS in chemical biology from Chinese academy of sciences in 2006. After completing doctoral research at Missouri University of Science and Technology, he started in the summer of 2011 as a research fellow in Lawrence Berkeley National lab and Joint BioEnergy Institute. Dr. Xiaoliang Cheng is the recipient of the Marilyn and Richard K. Vitek fellowship in analytical chemistry 2009 and 2010. This award, sponsored by Marilyn and Richard K. Vitek research foundation, recognizes the contributions of an individual who has demonstrated exceptional technical advancement and innovation in the field of analytical chemistry. He was also selected by department of chemistry to receive the Barr Engineering graduate awards in 2009.

Research Interest

His primary research and publications focus on emerging environmental contaminants including water disinfection byproducts (DBPs), pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs), algal toxins, pesticides and herbicides, nitrosamines and toxic trace elements in drinking water, wastewater and food with emphasis on analytical method development, treatment and fate modeling. Also, emphasis has been placed in developing and implementing new bioanalytical instrumentation and assays for metabolomics and early cancer screening. With articles published in ACS journals such as Analytical chemistry, Journal of agriculture and food chemistry and so on, Dr. Cheng is author or co-author of eleven peer-reviewed scientific articles and has given fifteen scientific presentations and invited seminar on both national and international conferences in the past two years. He also serves as reviewer for seven peer-reviewed journals.
