Venkata Sai Prakash Chaturvedula

Biography

Venkata Sai Prakash Chaturvedula did his BS from Nagarjuna University and obtained Gold Medal to stood First in Chemistry from ANR College. In 1987 Dr. Chaturvedula completed his MS from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, India and stood University First in Organic Chemistry and honored with several prestigious awards. Dr Chaturvedula did his Ph.D. in Natural Product Chemistry (isolation and characterization of bioactive secondary metabolites) from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, India. Afterwards, he worked for more than six years in various pharmaceutical industries in India as Research Associate, Research Scientist and Senior Research Scientist/Head of Natural Products Chemistry Department at Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited, New Delhi; Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited, Ahmedabad and Natco Pharmaceuticals Limited, Hyderabad respectively. During his industrial research, Dr Chaturvedula worked in the fields of Natural Products Chemistry as well as Synthetic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry and Process Development studies. In March 1999, Dr Chaturvedula joined at the Institute of Marine Resources at National Sun-yat Sen University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan as Visiting Scientist and worked for about two years on the isolation of active secondary metabolites (extraction, fractionation, purification, structure elucidation, etc) using bioassay-guided methodology of medicinal plants and marine organisms of Taiwan origin. In 2001, Dr Chaturvedula joined as Research Scientist in Dr. David G. I. Kingston’s group at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Virginia, USA and worked on the projects funded by ICBG (International Cooperative Biodiversity Group), NCDDG (National Cooperative Drug Discovery Group) and NIH (National Institutes of Health) involved in the isolation of active natural products by bioassay-guided fractionation from plants and marine organisms. In August 2004, Dr Chaturvedula joined at SelectX Pharmaceuticals and held various positions from Senior Staff Scientist to Senior Director-Natural Products Chemistry by working in the Drug Discovery Research programs of infectious diseases (both isolation and synthesis). Currently, Dr Chaturvedula is working as Technical Expert in the Organic Chemistry Department of the Research and Technology at The Coca-Cola Company, located at Atlanta, USA. Published over 50 publications and presented more than 30 papers in various conferences.
                        
 

Research Interest

His Research interests are in isolation, structure elucidation and synthesis of biologically active natural products from both plant and marine origin of potentially important therapeutic areas. Also interested in synthetic methodology; design, synthesis and process development of Organic Compounds.
