Biography

Dr. Phouthone Keohavong is an Associate Professor of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh. He received his PhD in 1986 in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Louis Pasteur University, Strasbourg, France. He performed his postdoctoral research at the Center for Environmental Health Sciences, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, before joining the University of Pittsburgh in 1991. His research interests are to understand the molecular mechanisms of mutagenesis and carcinogenesis of environmental chemicals by using human cells and tissues and animal models.

Research Interest

Molecular mechanisms of chemical mutagenesis, mutational spectra of potential carcinogens, linkage of environmental chemicals to cancer, tissue stem cells and cancer, biomarkers for early cancer detection.
