Biography

He got hisPh.D. Microbiology in rganic Nitrogen use by marine algae Phaeodactylum tricornutum, (1990) from University of Wales, Swansea. He was recruited to the Biorenewables Programme in January 2007 and since that time have developed high-throughput methods, mainly based on infrared spectrometry, to assess variation in the IBERS Miscanthus collection, quantify biomass quality traits and study how agronomic practice alters cell wall composition in energy grass species. Much of this work has been associated with SUPERGEN Bioenergy, which aligned well with my ISPG goals. Prior to this heI have worked in several areas including the discovery of metabolite markers of pre-clinical BSE and scrapie in plasma, molecular engineering of condensed tannin biosynthesis in model legumes, scientific risk assessment of non-food transgenic crops and algal biochemistry. He has authored/co-authored 15 scientific publications including peer reviewed journals.

Research Interest

Cell wall composition in energy crops,Matching feed-stock chemical composition to conversion process, Interaction between plant and pathogen at the level of the cell wall, Development of high-through put methods Chemometrics and multivariate analysis of large data sets.
