Biography

Dr. Herbert is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Immunobiology at Cincinnati Childrens Research Foundation, USA. He has many Scientific publications.

Research Interest

Dr. Herberts laboratory research is focused on macrophage differentiation into M1, M2, and regulatory subsets in mouse models of gastrointestinal helminth infection and colitis. Specifically, work has shown that redundancy between the immunosuppressive cytokines interleukin (IL-10) and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-ß) protects against lethal hepatic injury during infection with Schistosoma mansoni, a parasite responsible for hepatic and intestinal inflammation in 250 million people worldwide. In contrast, lethal intestinal inflammation during schistosomiasis is suppressed by interleukin 4 and 13 dependent of M2 differentiation through a mechanism that requires expression of the L-arginine metabolic enzyme arginase I.
