David A. Scott

Biography

David A Scott is a Professor of Oral Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the School of Dentistry, University of Louisville. He received a BSc in Microbiology from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland and a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He is past President of the International Society for the Prevention of Tobacco Induced Diseases and a member of the International Association for Dental Research and the Society for Leukocyte Biology. He is a NIDCR study section member serves on the Editorial Board of three journals and reviews for many others. His research has been funded by the Canadian NSERC and CIHR and US governments CDC and NIH.

Research Interest

Tobacco-induced genotypic and phenotypic alterations to pathogenic bacteria (P. gingivalis).
Endogenous and exogenous (tobacco alkaloids) suppression of the innate response to bacterial infection (GSK3b, nAChR).
