Anthony D. Wright is Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy, at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, USA. He earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at James Cook University, Townsville, Queensland, Australia. He has co-authored 170 peer reviewed original research articles, 8 review articles, and 4 book chapters. He has been a teacher for his whole career which spans over 30 years, and includes experience in the classroom and laboratory alike, in five different countries and on three continents. He is a Fellow and the Royal Chemical Society and a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Society of Pharmaconosy. He serves as a reviewer of peer-reviewed journals in all areas relating to Natural Products Research with an emphasis on marine and microbial products, and NMR method development and application. He received a number of awards including an ETH (Zurich, Switzerland) PhD., scholarship and the American Society of Pharmacy Young Investigator Awardee
cultivation of macro- and micro-organisms, Detailed NMR investigations of their natural product components through to biological testing, and all of the physical and biological science in between, in particular the search for biologically active and chemically unusual/novel natural products and everything this implies.
His research group discovered the first compounds from the marine environment to have selective antimalarial activity and were also the first to isolate endophytic fungi from marine algae.
