Combating Terrorism

Combating terrorism is not an easy task and it is something that cannot be done in an over night. It will be a long struggle that could be quite dangerous. One of the first things to do is to find out all of the approaches that these terrorists use and understand their strategies. If we can find out all the ways in which they may attack, it will be more easier to set up defenses and stop them before they harm any innocent people. Terrorism is something that can be stopped. If the terrorist believe that they can successfully attack on us and escape without any harm, they will become much more bold and dangerous. It is important to stop them immediately. This study is about anti-terrorism cooperation between the National Agency for Counterterrorism (Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Terorisme/BNPT) and civil society, research case Muhammadiyah disengagement in the signing of Memorandum Of Understanding between BNPT and Islamic organizations in 2011. The theory applies are Terrorism, Security sector reform and Cooperation. Unluckily, there has not been any framework of cooperation established between Muhammadiyah and BNPT, due to several hindering factors. Muhammadiyah has conducted anti-terrorism efforts through its structural and cultural roles in politic, socio-economic, diplomatic and education aspect. . Firstly, Muhammadiyah and BNPT have different perspective in addressing issues on terrorism and anti terrorism methodology. Secondly, political conflict. Thirdly, BNPT's constraints in time, human resources and funding. In addition, the concept of deradicalization applied by BNPT needs to be evaluated and developed. This research is a qualitative research and using descriptive analysis method.With its experience in conflictavoidance, crisis management and early warning, OMICS contributes to world-wide efforts in combating terrorism.Forthly, lack of BNPT's political will. Actually, Muhammadiyah possess ideological and organisational potential that may facilitate the dissemination of anti terrorism more effective and efficient. Therefore, this study recommends the need for BNPT and Muhammadiyah to strengthen organisational commitment and to start building communication.
